Information about History Alive at Abbeystowe: A Journey Through Time

History Alive at Abbeystowe is a weekend event held 7-8 September 2024 with a full and exciting Programme each day. This event is hosted by the Abbeystowe Team who deliver the Abbey Medieval Festival with support of QLHF.

Gates open at 9:00 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. 

Over 1000 re-enactors and historians from all over Queensland participate with Main Arena Combat Performances, Medieval Tournaments, Historical Displays, Workshops, and Discussions.

BYO a picnic OR purchase food & drinks from our many on-site Vendors and Food Trucks.

Visit the Market Stalls and Museums then take a break while the kids enjoy a show or two!

Parking & how to get to History Alive 2024

History Alive at Abbeystowe: A Journey Through Time is held at Abbeystowe, an open field near the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology in the Moreton Bay Region, Caboolture, South East Queensland. The address is 579 Old Toorbul Point Rd.

DRIVING FROM BRISBANE

Abbeystowe is roughly a 45-minute drive from Brisbane via the Bruce Highway. Patrons driving from Brisbane should take the Caboolture-Bribie Island exit off the Bruce Highway, then move into Bribie Island exit 152A.

Head for Bribie Island, following the signs for Abbeystowe and turn left onto Old Toorbul Point Road, heading to 579 Old Toorbul Point Rd.

DRIVING FROM THE SUNSHINE COAST

Take Pumicestone Road, Toorbul/Donnybrook exit 157 off the Bruce Highway, drive 1km east along Pumicestone Road and turn right onto McGarry Road. Follow the signs for Abbeystowe.

When is it held?
History Alive is held annually. Our next living history event will be held 7 – 8 SEPTEMBER 2024 and is proudly delivered by the Abbeystowe team that bring you the Abbey Medieval Festival.

What time does it start?
The gates open at 9:00 a.m. each day.

How much are tickets?
See above.

Where is it held?
History Alive at Abbeystowe, is held at Caboolture. Home of the Abbey Medieval Festival.

Is parking available?
Yes! FREE Visitor Parking is available.

I have an Australian Disability Parking Permit, where can I park?
No problem, disability parking will be available. More details to come.

Can I catch public transport to Abbeystowe?
Athrough there is a direct train departing from Brisbane Central station arriving at Caboolture station operating every day, there will no NO shuttle service operating across the weekend due to plenty of onsite parking. We hope to offer this service in future as attendee numbers grow.

Can I bring my own weapon? Like a sword or replica gun?
Sorry, NO. Those items will have to be left at home.

Is food available?
Yes. There are loads of food vendors on-site, so you can have a fuss-free day. We also have vendors selling other items, such as armour and weapons, pottery, jewellery, gifts, antiques & curios as well as historical models.

Is EFTPOS available?
Most vendors will have EFTPOS facilities but reception may be limited. Please bring cash to avoid any disruption. NO ATM’s will be onsite for History Alive at Abbeystowe.

Is there shade available?
There are plenty of trees and shady places to be seated, however, there is very little shade on the main field where the encampments are located, so please bring  a hat and sunscreen.

What should I wear?
We suggest comfortable clothing and shoes. Also remember, even though it is winter the sun’s rays are still strong so don’t forget to wear sunscreen and a hat.

Do you honour companion cards?

Companions will receive free entry when presented with a purchased ticket holder. 

You will be required to show your companion card at the Entry Gate accompanied with a paid ticket holder. Please note, the companion ticket does not include Jousting or VIP. If attending the Joust all guests including the companion must have purchased a ticket prior to arriving at the event.

Can I smoke at History Alive?
Smoking & e-cigarettes are permitted ONLY within the signed designated smoking areas.

Is photography permitted?
An an official Abbeystowe event, photography is permitted via mobile phones for personal use only as per the terms and conditions of entry. Professional and hobbyist-style cameras & videography equipment including scope or long zoom lenses are strictly not permitted.

This is due to our existing agreements with media, and the dedicated service of our professional photography volunteers who go through procedures and policies to ensure safe practices and keeping with our medieval experience. Our photographers are easily identifiable by the public by their authorised photography lanyards.
